I am proud to practice interest-based representation. In addition to gathering the facts concerning a legal situation, I find out what my client's personal interests are, in priority order, and use those priorities as guidelines to address the specific legal situation.
For example: I represented a client who was charged with theft. The individual's number one interest was to become a U.S. citizen in the future. Since theft is a crime of mortal turpitude (i.e., conduct that is considered contrary to community standards of justice, honesty or good morals), if the client were to enter a certain plea or try to settle the case in a certain way, it could have remained on his record permanently and prevented him from ever becoming a U.S. citizen. Therefore, we approached the case in a manner most appropriate to preserve his interest in becoming a U.S. citizen.
